Zoraida Sorrentini of Vincent St. died Monday, October 15, 2007 at home. She was 92.
She was born July 24, 1915 in Ponce, PR a daughter of the late Julio and Maria Rodriguez Torres.
A seamstress, Mrs. Sorrentin was a member of the ILGWU in Manhattan. She previously worked as a nurses aide in Puerto Rico. She was president of Club Civico Poncenio and Club Folklorica in New York City. Along with her husband, for many years she helped organize the Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York.
Her husband, Victor M. Sorrentini died July 24, 2003.
Surviving are her daughter Aglae Dixon and her husband, Ronald of Kingston, her son, Andres Alfonso and his wife, Carmen of San Juan, PR and a sister, Josephine Lozada of Ft. Lauderdale, FL., her grandchildren, Mark Dixon, Andru Alfonso, Rhonda Dixon-Ziros, Natalie Polacco, Dr. Gishlaine Torres, Desiree Rincones, Dr.Charmaine Alfonso and great-grandmother of Michael, John, Keldon and Connor Polacco, Almondo and Adriana Torres, Alevil, Alexandra and Amaldo Rincones and Ava Ziros. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Three sister, Adelaide Colon, Isabelle Llauger, Lucy Gotay and two brothers, Julio and Albert Torres died previously.
Reposing at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Wednesday from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 pm. A funeral procession will form on Thursday at 10:00 am from the funeral home. At 11:00 am, a funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Catherine Laboure Church in Lake Katrine by Fr. John Kearney. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
