Ying-Chang “James” Lo died peacefully in his sleep at his home on Friday, February 9th, surrounded by sunshine, music and family. His passing followed several months of declining vitality. James was born in mainland China on November 12th, 1936 and immigrated to Taiwan with his family in 1949. There, he achieved a Business degree at National Taiwan University prior to immigrating to the United States in 1963 to study at the University of Tennessee, where he met and married his wife, Nancy, and earned a Master’s Degree in Math. After graduating, they moved to Kingston where he established his career as a Computer Programmer and Project Manager for IBM for 32 years. In spite of many opportunities to relocate, he chose to remain in Kingston for the rest of his life, where they raised their son and daughter. He was an active member of the local Chinese Association for many years.
James was an avid tennis and golf player, and enjoyed Tai Chi and meditation. He had a life-long appreciation of classical music, fine art, good cooking, gardening, enjoyed doing DIY projects on his home, and had a unique talent for jerry-rigging. While he came to this country with very little, he was able to provide generously for his family through wise real estate and stock market investments. He loved fine meals, philosophical conversations, and epic movies. He believed in fate, and was a romantic at heart.
Proudly carrying his memory are his wife, Nancy Crawford Lo, his daughter, Olivia, his son, Brian, his son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Karen, his grandchildren, Elena, Eric and Alison, his five siblings: Anna, Chris, Frances, Pauline, and Eric, their families, and many dear friends. Whenever we see a golf club, eat a lobster dinner, taste a chocolate truffle, listen to Beethoven, or hear the phrase, “Que Sera Sera,” our thoughts will drift towards him, and our hearts will swell and smile.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday April 27th. Friends may visit from 2pm to 3pm, followed by a ceremony from 3pm to 5pm at the Keyser Carr Simpson Hammerl Funeral Home, located at 326 Albany Ave, in Kingston. This will be followed by a gathering of his friends and family at his home.
