William M. Daum

William M. Daum, 92, of Ulster Park, died Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 6, 1920 in Newark, NJ, the son of the late William and Hilda Kautzmann Daum, Sr.

He was the husband of the late Ernestine Schirmer Daum; she died on February 26, 2006.

Mr. Daum was a graduate of East Orange High School, East Orange, NJ. A lifelong learner, he earned his Associate Degree in Business Administration from UCCC after retiring as a manager from IBM Kingston in 1975.

A very active member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, he had been church council president and a Sunday School teacher. A scoutmaster for 25 years, Boy Scout Troop 9, he was a veteran Scouter for 55 years and was the recipient of the Lamb Award and the Silver Beaver Award.

A founding member, first chairman and New York District Representative of Service Corps of Retired Executives Chapter #533; member Ulster County R.S.V.P. Advisory Board; he was 1st Chairman and
member Town of Esopus Planning Board and member NY State Small Business Development Center Advisory Board and a member Hope Lodge #124 F & AM, Lincoln Park, NJ.

He is survived by his children, William L. Daum and his wife Paula of Leeds, Alabama, Johanna Byron and her husband Philip of Phoenicia, NY, Gretchen Daum of Ulster Park and Elsa Schisler and her husband Mark of Indian Lake, NY, four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Leonard E. Daum.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of The Redeemer, 104 Wurts St., Kingston, on Saturday at 10 am, The Rev. James Rowe, officiating. Inurnment in Blue Mountain Cemetery.
