William J. Van Etten, Sr., 74, of Park Lane, Port Ewen, died Wednesday morning, June 2, 2010 at his residence in Port Ewen after a lengthy illness. He was born December 19, 1935 in Kingston, to the late Thomas and Mildred (Schatzel) Van Etten.
He was the husband of Carolyn Krum Van Etten, they wed on November 5, 1955 at St. Peter's RC Church in Kingston, they would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary this year. .
Mr. Van Etten was a graduate of Kingston High School and a communicant of St. Mary's RC Church; he was a carpenter having been self employed. He had served with the NY Army Reserve National Guard, 156th Field Artillery, Kingston. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, carpentry, camping and vacationing in Maine.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his sons William "Will" J. Van Etten, Jr., Port Ewen, Michael "Mike" B. Van Etten, Lexington, KY, brothers Thomas Van Etten, Port Ewen, and Joseph Van Etten, Kingston, a sister Mary Lou Jones, Saugerties, a grandson Kailor Van Etten, and several nieces and nephews.
Entrusted to the care of the A. Carr & Son Funeral Home, 65 Lucas Ave, Kingston. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9. The procession will form on Saturday at 9:15 am at the funeral home and proceed to St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church where at 10 am a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial in St. Peter's Cemetery, Kingston
