William Henry Haltermann

November 17, 1918 — June 27, 2008

William Henry Haltermann, 89, of Main Street, Kingston, NY and South Dennis, MA died on June 27th. He was born on November 17, 1918 in Waterville, Maine. He is survived by his wife, Mary Bryan Haltermann, three sons, William Henry Haltermann, Jr., Frederick William Haltermann, Bryan Mellor Haltermann, a daughter, Mary Ann Daley, eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Henry Haltermann grew up in Tenafly, NJ and moved to Kingston, NY in 1954. After retirement in 1981 he spent summers on Cape Cod and winters in Rincon, Puerto Rico.

He graduated from the Englewood School for Boys and attended New York University.

During World War II Henry worked for the United States Treasury Department selling war bonds on tours with war heroes.

Henry worked for the Swedish American Line on the ship Kungsholm, the Pennsylvania Hotel in New York City, and the Jakoque Inn in Scottsdale, Arizona. He spent many years working for Gulf Oil, first in New York City and then in Kingston, as district manager.

For most of Henry's life he was involved with Lake Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, NY. Growing up he was a camper and junior counselor at Lake Awosting. Later he was the sports director at Mohonk for five years. In 1969 he ran the special events for Mohonk's centennial celebration and continued to be involved in special events at the hotel for many years.

Henry was president of the Callabar Club, helped the club relocate from Stone Ridge to its current location in Kingston and helped start a summer camp for kids there. He was on the board of the Kingston United Way and Girl Scouts. He was president of the George Washington School PTA. He was also active with Kingston's Bicentennial celebration.

A date for a memorial service has not been set yet. Memorial donations may be made to the Kingston Hospital Foundation, 745 Grant Ave., Lake Katrine, NY 12449. Arrangements by Keyser Funeral Service, Kingston.
