William (Bill) E. Winter, formerly of Sharon Lane, Kingston NY, died Christmas Eve, December 24, 2003, at his Exeter NH residence. He was 88.
He was born in Kingston NY on January 18, 1915, son of the late David and Mary Coutant Winter.
Bill started his career as a machinist for Delavalle in Poughkeepsie NY, followed by 21 years of service as a toll collector for the NYS Bridge Authority in Kingston. He retired in 1978.
He was a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church in Kingston. He also was a member of the Wiltwyck Hose Volunteer Fire Company.
Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife, Dolores, who passed away October 13, 1999. He was also predeceased by his sister Margaret Johnston.
Bill enjoyed his life long hobby of woodworking. He and his wife, Dolores, enjoyed camping and traveling, especially their trip to the West Coast and their many trips to Florida during the winter months.
He is survived by his two sons William R. Winter and his wife Ann of Exeter NH and David J. Winter and his wife Janet of Glenmont NY; five grandchildren Susan Beckman, Lori Cucuzzella, B.J. Winter, D. Scott Winter and J. Lonny Winter; one great granddaughter Elizabeth Beckman; several nieces and nephews.
Reposing at Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Avenue, Kingston on Sunday 2:00 - 4:00 PM. Friends and family will then meet at the funeral home on Monday at 2:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church, 242 Wall St., Kingston at 3:15 PM. Interment will be in Wiltwyck Cemetery.
