William Joseph Glennon (Bill), 86, a lifelong resident of Kingston, died Saturday, December 26, 2020, at Golden Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Kingston, he was a son of the late John & Nellie Avery Glennon. Bill graduated from Kingston High School in 1953 and RIT with an AS degree in Electrical Technology. Bill was a commercial and industrial electrical contractor, Glennon Electric, for 35 years. After his retirement, he taught electrical technology for the Electricial Apprenticeship program at Ulster County Boces and was a member of the City of Kingston Electrical Licensing Board.
Bill coached Little League baseball in Woodstock and Babe Ruth League baseball in Saugerties. Bill was a member of the Rotary Club and Ancient Order Of Hibernians. Proud of his Irish heritage, Bill was Mayor of Kingston for the day in 2006 on Saint Patrick’s Day. He was also a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Kingston Council 275. He was an avid boater and traveled extensively throughout the upstate New York waterways. Most of all, Bill enjoyed spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Bill is survived by his wife Theresa Maccaline Glennon of Kingston, two sons, William Glennon, Jr and his wife, Georgette of Woodstock, Edward Glennon of Erie, PA, a sister, Margaret Jasinski and her husband, Frank of Bellingham, MA., three grandchildren, Kyle, Rebecca and Jack. Many nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren, and great-step-grandchildren also survive.
In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his first wife, Cecilia Brooks Glennon, and two brothers, John Glennon and James Glennon.
Bill will be reposing at the Simpson-Hammerl Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, from 3-6 PM.
The funeral procession will form from the funeral home on Thursday at 9:00 AM.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Church.
Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
