William A. Scheffel

William ''Rabbit'' A. Scheffel, Sr., 72, of Church Street, Ruby, NY, died Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at Benedictine Hospital, Kingston, NY. He was born March 9, 1936 in Kingston, NY to the late David and Evelyn Horton Scheffel.

He was married to Cheryl "Cherie" Conrad Scheffel, they wed on April 3, 1986.

He had worked for the Town of Ulster Highway department and had owned and operated Scheffel Well Drilling. Bill was a life member of the Ruby Fire Department having served for 53 years. He had been Fire Chief, Fire Commissioner and director. He had been very active with all facets of operating the department. When he was younger he raced stock cars locally at Lebanon Valley, Accord, Oneonta as well as many other local tracks. He was an avid NASCAR fan, he enjoyed hunting, gardening and raising livestock.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughter Trudi L. DeCicco, Saugerties, son William A. Scheffel, Jr., Kingston, NY , daughter Jill Williams, Glasco, Renee Thompson, Florida, Lisa Looney, Alabama, brother David Scheffel, Fuquay Varina, NC, John "Jack" Scheffel, Ruby, NY, Raymond Scheffel, Lake Katrine, NY, sister Helen Schabot, Town Of Ulster, NY, 9 grandchildren, Maryssa, Rachel, Jessica, Ravin, Erick, Richard, Jennifer, Jason,Nicole. Many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by: sisters Marion Knapp and Ruth Dachenhausen.

Entrusted to the care of the Keyser Funeral Service, Inc., 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, where services will be held on Monday at 11 am Keyser Funeral Service, Rev. Thomas Goodhart, officiating. Burial in Mt. Marion Cemetery, Mt. Marion. Friends may call on Sunday from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9
