Warren Jack Avis, died after a long illness on Saturday, May 22, 2010, at the age of 67 in New Paltz at the Mountain View Nursing and Rehabilitation Home. He was born in New York City and lived most of his life in Kingston. He was the son of Attorney Joseph Avis and Sally Leventhal Avis, who both predeceased him. He was the grandson of Jack and Ruth Avis and Max and Dora Leventhal. Warren loved flying light airplanes, photography, classic rock and animal rights. He belonged to the SPCA of Ulster County.
He is survived by his sister Terry Avis Chiarieri and her husbandGabriel of Rhinecliff and his nephews Robert and Paul Rentfro and his niece Allison Oliveri; also by his longtime companion Diane LaFever of Kingston. Other survivors include numerous cousins. His Uncle David Leventhal and Aunt Mimi Leventhal Lewis who were brought up in Kingston were also survivors. The family appreciates the warmth and patience which Warren received while living at the Mountain View Nursing and Rehabilitation Home.
