Wanda Belle Rouse Goldstein, 86, of Kingston, N.Y., was born Dec. 15, 1930, in Newkirk, Okla., and died Feb. 14, 2017, at Golden Hill Nursing Home in Kingston. Wanda is survived by her husband Stanley Goldstein of Kingston; their children Richard Goldstein and his wife Ingrid of England and Bruce Goldstein of Kingston; and Wanda's brother Warren Rouse of Norman, Okla. Wanda and Stan were married for 67 delightful years. Wanda graduated from Queens College with a bachelor's in art history. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Columbia University with a master's in art history and taught art history at Maloy College in Rockville Centre. Wanda loved the outdoors and she and Stanley spent their honeymoon on a canoe trip in the Adirondacks. She worked as a volunteer and was politically active throughout her life, with a special interest in racial equality and prison reform. Wanda, a member of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Catskills, conceived and wrote the congregation's guide for former prisoners, "Coming Back to Ulster County," now a signature publication of the congregation. She was secretary of the local NAACP. A celebration of Wanda's life is scheduled at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Catskills, 320 Sawkill Road, Kingston. Donations in Wanda Belle Rouse Goldstein's memory may be made to the American Indian College Fund or to American Near East Refugee Aid (ANERA) Aiding Palestinian Refugees in Gaza.
