Walter Schaefer Jr, 83, resident of Mt Marion for 49 years died Monday, November 19, 2012 at Kingston Hospital with his family by his side.
Born in Kingston, he was the son of the late Walter G. & Ethel Schaefer, Sr. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean conflict. Walter was a bartender at Ivan's in Stone Ridge for many years. He belonged to the Marbletown Fire Department, loved golfing, fishing, gardening, woodworking, camping at Round Top (Whip-O-Will) and sitting on his front porch. His first job was at Huck Manufacturing as a quality control manager giving the company 49 good years.
Walter is survived by six children, Ethel Knecht and her husband Ernest of Mt Dora, FL, Cindy Maloney and her husband Tom of Mt Marion, Lois Schaefer-Wood and her husband Dwayne of Mt marion, Patricia Wight of Tilson, Walter (Bo) Schaefer III, and his girlfriend Bree of Kingston and Fran Schaefer of Saugerties. A sister, Dorothy Remus and her husband Conrad of Kingston. 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren also survive.
In addition to his parents, Walter was predeceased by his loving wife of 39 years, Rita Marie Perry Schaefer, a son, John Max Schaefer, and a granddaughter, Mindy Lee Sauer.
Reposing at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Avenue on Friday, November 23, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at the Funeral Home at 10:00 AM.
Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery off Foxhall Avenue in Kingston.
