Walter Dougherty of Henry Street died Saturday, May 21, 2005 at home. He was 75.
He was born in Kingston on February 6, 1930, a son of the late Rose Dougherty. Mr. Dougherty was a Kingston High School graduate, class of ’48.
After graduation he entered the US Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict in Okinowa, Japan. He was a past Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Joyce – Schirick Post 1386 and member of the Kingston American Legion Post 150.
For 39 years Mr. Dougherty worked at Central Hudson Gas & Electric. He retired as a foreman in 1989 and belonged to the International Brotherhood of Electricic Workers.
He was a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church, an honorary member of the White Eagle Benevolent Society. He was a former member of the Elks Lodge and Moose Lodge.
On April 19, 1953 he married Lucy Nardi.
Beloved husband of Lucy Nardi Dougherty; loving father of Gary G. Dougherty and his wife Debra Latsch of Hurley; Maureen C. Nerone and her husband Thomas of Kingston; Michael P. Dougherty and his wife Veronica of Kingston; brother of Louis Petramale of Town of Ulster and Shirley Corrado of Kingston; grandfather of Zachary and Benjamin Nerone. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Reposing at the Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Sunday 6:00 – 9:00. The American Legion will conduct a ritual on Sunday at 7:00 PM. The VFW will conduct a ritual on Sunday at 7:30 PM. Calling hours will also be Monday 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:30 AM from the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church by Fr. Frank Damis at 12:30 PM.
Entombment, with military honors by Joyce - Schirick Post 1386, will be in Witlwyck Community Mausoleum.
