Vivian Barbara Serravallo passed away on Sunday, January 6 in Hillsborough, NJ. Born January 22, 1924 in Kingston, NY to the late Frank and Ida (Lucas) Woerner, she was a long-time resident of Saugerties.
Vivian, “Bam” to her family, was a talented seamstress who worked for 40 years in Kingston (where she met her future husband, Frank) and in Glasco. She shared her talents with family, creating children’s clothes, doll clothes, quilts, and even a wedding dress for her eldest granddaughter. She was a consummate homemaker who raised her two boys and helped raise her Saugerties-based grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Although German, she cooked Italian food that would rival any Nonna, including her famous pizza fries. She was a wreath-maker, Christmas-tree-seller, card shark, and scrabble champion. She was a member of St. Mary’s of the Snow church in Saugerties for more than 50 years. She socialized and played cards with friends as part of the Red Hatter’s Club and at the Saugerties Senior Center.
Vivian was predeceased by her husband of 71 years who passed away in August 2017, by three sisters (Lillian Linden, Mildred “Sis” Best and Patricia Curtin) and by two brothers (Frank and Lawrence Woerner).
She is survived by her two sons and their wives: Frank Jr and Debbie in AZ and Fred and Patti in NJ, as well as four granddaughters and their partners (Jen and Jen, Melissa and Jamie, Yvonne, and Nicole and Warren) and one step grandson and his wife (Nick and Michelle), four great-granddaughters (Emily, Lola, Vivian, and Lia), four great-grandsons (Justin [and his wife Elizabeth], Jeremy, Zachary, and Jack) and one great-great-grandson (Chase).
We will miss her quiet sense of humor and her loving company. We hope she is enjoying unlimited sweets in heaven (calorie-free, of course).
Vivian will be reposing at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Thursday, January 10, 2019 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
The funeral procession will form from the funeral home on Friday at 9:00 AM.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM at St. Mary of the Snow Church.
Interment will follow in St. Mary of the Snow Cemetery.
