Virginia Torres

Virginia Torres, 75, of Kingston, NY, died at the Albany Medical Center on March 27, 2015, after suffering a stroke. She was surrounded by her loving husband and family. Born in 1939 in Santurce, PR, she was predeceased by her parents, Liborio Villegas of PR, and Maria Lugo of NJ. She is survived by her husband, Reyes Torres, Jr., 5 children: Rene Gutierrez and wife Andree, Michael Torres, Mark Torres & wife Paula, Reyes Torres III & wife Alisa and Melanie Torres; 2 special daughters, Lynell Medley of MD and Maria Hampton, deceased; 7 grandchildren; 5 siblings: Carlos Villegas of PR, Margarita Zakar of FL, Esmeralda Alonso of NY, Lydia Rocco of NJ, William Villegas of DE, and a host of nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

Virginia received the Lord Jesus Christ as her savior in 1985, through the witness of her sister Lydia, after God's gracious healing from cancer. She subsequently became a member of Spirit Life Fellowship in Salem, NJ where she supervised the "Oasis Soup Kitchen", a thriving ministry of the church. She was employed at Ranch Hope for Troubled Boys in Alloway, NJ. After her marriage to Reyes, she moved to Kingston and joined Saint Clara Church until the Lord brought them to Ellenville.

Virginia and her husband were coworkers in ministry at Praise Dominion Family Worship Center in the village of Ellenville, NY. Her animated worship and praise were often used by the Holy Spirit to lift up others in the worship services. Virginia exhibited a quiet strength which drew others to her. She founded the women's ministry, and assisted with the food pantry ministry of the church that feeds the hungry and needy in the community. Her life exuded the warmth and love of Christ to all, garnished with words of encouragement that extended hope to everyone. Virginia opened her home to many women going through difficult circumstances and in need of direction. The scarlet thread of her life was love.

The Celebration of Life Service will be held at Pointe of Praise Church, 243 Hurley Ave., Kingston, NY on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at 11:00am, with the family receiving friends at 10:30am.
