Velma R Wright

Velma R Wright, 82, of Village Drive, Saugerties, NY, passed away September, 13th 2012 at home. Velma was born on May 25, 1930 in Philadelphia, PA to the late William and Phylis Brown Reynolds. She is preceded in death by her brothers, Stanley Reynolds, Frederick Reynolds, and stepmother Mary G. Reynolds.

Velma was the Director of Outreach for Ulster County Community Action, Kingston, NY and she served as the Regional Director of Green Thumb, Inc., and Senior's Job Placement Organization for Columbia, Greene, Ulster, Orange and Sullivan County. Velma was certified by NYS as a mediator serving Orange, Sullivan and Ulster Counties.

Velma was a member of Saugerties United Methodist Church Choir for 50 years. She was a devoted community activist which lead her to be an advocate for the voices, she was an early founder of Family of Woodstock, and created the migrant daycare center of Kingston. Velma served on the Board of Directors for the following organizations: Health Services Association (HSA), Mid-Hudson Legal Services, Sullivan and Ulster County Mediation, Ulster County Community Action and PathStone formerly known as Rural Opportunity.

Velma is survived by her husband Robert E. Wright, of Saugerties, NY, daughter Valerie Wright and her partner Tim Whiting of Schenectady, NY, daughter Michele Wright of Saugerties, NY, daughter Kristal Wright of Marietta, GA, daughter Cheryl Wright - Santos and husband Jose' Santos of Bermuda, son Carlton Wright of Saugerties, NY, grandson David Wright of Marietta, GA, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Entrusted to the care of Eric Keyser of Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Ave., Kingston, where friends may call on Friday September 21 from 2- 4 & 7- 9pm. The funeral service will take place on Saturday September 22 at 1pm at Saugerties United Methodist Church, Washington Ave. & Post Street, Saugerties, NY.

Burial will follow in Blue Mt. Cemetery, Saugerties.
