Tyler Charles Hughes, Jr., 86, of The Governor Clinton Senior Citzens Residence, Kingston, NY, died Saturday, August 30, 2008 at Ferncliff Nursing Home, Rhinebeck, NY. He was born November 18, 1921 in Pottsville, PA to the late Tyler Charles and Jessie Barringer Hughes, Sr..
He was a Tech/Sgt. in the United States Army serving from 1943 to 1952 and was in the European African Theater of operations during WWII. He received the Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and the Purple Heart.
He had been the owner and operator of Cheap Charlies Candy Store, Broadway, Kingston, NY. He enjoyed playing the drums and harmonica. He loved to play lotto and quickdraw and was an avid NY Yankee fan.
He is survived by son Gary Hoffman, Kingston, NY, son John McMillian, Middletown, NY, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, David E. Hughes, Sr., Robert W. Hughes, William B. Hughes, Allen L. Hughes, Sr., and infant brother Skippy Hughes.
Entrusted to the care of the Keyser Funeral Service, Inc., 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, where services will be held on Thursday at 10 am.
Burial in Wiltwyck Cemetery with military honors provided by Joyce Schirick Post # 1386 VFW.
