Travis A. Nissen, 27, of Onteora Court, Shokan, died suddenly Friday, December 9, 2011.
A great all around athlete, he loved the outdoors, was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. He had two hole in ones, and two double eagles. Along with his brother Kyle, Travis holds the record for the lowest round in history at Onteora High School.
Travis was a graduate of Onteora High School, Class of 2002 and Ulster County Community College, Class of 2005, Police Academy, he was Top Gun at the Police Academy.
Travis was a Police Officer for Town of Ulster Police Department and the Shandaken Police Department. He was the School Resource Officer at Miller Middle School in the Town of Ulster.
Travis was born May 29, 1984 in Kingston. He and his wife Kristy Canavan Nissen, were wed on August 26, 2011 at St. Joseph's RC Church. He is survived by his mother Mary R. Merck, father David F. Nissen and step father Richard J. Merck, brothers Greg Pettinato and Kyle J. Nissen, grandparents Dorothy Jacks and Pat Merck, cousin Adam McGrath, uncle James McGrath and many other aunts, uncles and cousins.
Entrusted to the care of the Keyser Funeral Service, Inc., 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, the family will receive their friends on Tuesday from 3 - 8 pm at the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's RC Church on Wednesday at 12:00 pm. Burial in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Mt. Tremper.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to The Travis A. Nissen Memorial Fund, c/o of Merck CPAs, PO Box 3537, Kingston, NY 12402.
