Thomas R. Yonta of Delaware Ave. died Sunday, March 18, 2007 at Albany Medical Center. He was 82.
He was born September 24, 1924 in Kingston, a son of the late Dominick and Rose Weider Yonta.
For many years, he worked in area brickyards and he retired as a custodian at City Hall in Kingston.
He was a member of Union Hose Volunteer Fire Company for over 50 years, a member of Joyce-Schirick Post 1386 V.F.W. and St. Mary's Benevolent Society. He was and avid bowler and vegetable gardener. He served in the navy from 1943 - 1946.
Surviving is his wife, Eleanor Kimble Yonta, two sons, Thomas Jr. of Saugerties and Vincent of Kingston; three daughters, Linda Sasso of Saugerties and Kelly Yonta and Jodi Cooper both of Kingston; two brothers, Michael and Robert Yonta and two sisters, Josephine Primo and Jeanette Provenzanno, all of Kingston. Eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews also survive.
Two sisters, Betty Spada, Viola Davide and a brother, Vincent Yonta died previously.
Reposing at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 pm. The funeral procession will form on Thursday at 9:15 am from the funeral home. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am in St. Mary's Church. Entombment will be in the Wiltwyck Community Mausoleum.
