Theresa (Brauchler) Ziwich, 94, of Golden Hill, passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at Benedictine Hospital in Kingston. She was born December 15, 1918 in Kuzura, Yugoslavia, to the late Wilhelm and Kristina (Reitter) Brauchler, the youngest of nine children.
In 1939 she married Michael Brandt and had two children, Martha and Annemarie. Both Michael and Martha died in WWII. After fleeing Yugoslavia as a refugee she and her daughter, Annemarie, settled in Germany. Later in 1952 they immigrated to the United States and settled in Ridgewood, NY. In 1958 she married Jakob Ziwich. Following the death of her second husband in 1971, she moved to Kingston with her son Jack.
Theresa worked at Kingston Knitting Mill and later at Kingston Hospital until her retirement in 1983. She lived in Colonial Gardens for 28 years where she was a long time member of the Senior Citizens Club. She was a member of the Fair St. Reformed Church and often attended the Supper Club. Theresa loved to crochet, bake, cook, and take care of her family.
She is survived by her children, Annemarie (Fred) Kurtz of Hurley and Jack (Linda) Ziwich of Tillson, grandchildren, Mitchell Kurtz, Fred (Colleen) Kurtz Jr., Steven Kurtz, Rachel (Donald Matthews III) Ziwich, Jakob Ziwich, Leah Ziwich, great grandchildren, Logan, Noah, Alyssa and Brandt Kurtz. She is also survived by her beloved step-daughter, Elisabeth Laxhuber of Germany and her granddaughter, Helene (Klaus Koniger) Laxhuber.
Entrusted to the care of Luke Keyser of Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Ave., Kingston, where friends may call on Friday from 4 to 7pm. The procession will form on Saturday at 12 noon and proceed to Fair Street Reformed Church where at 1pm the funeral service will be held. Burial will follow in Montrepose Cemetery, Kingston.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to Fair Street Reformed Church, Building Renovation Fund, 209 Fair St., Kingston, NY 12401
