Theodore S. Benson, 88, of Pine Place, Kingston, died Monday, March 8, 2010 at Golden Hill Health Care Center, Kingston. He was born August 26, 1921 in Hoboken, NJ, to the late John and Anna (Wilde) Benson.
He was the husband of the late Elizabeth Anna May Benson, she died on August 26, 2005.
He was a veteran of the US Navy, having served during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations on the aircraft carrier USS Shangri LA.
Mr. Benson had been employed by IBM in Kingston in Quality Control, retiring in 1986 after 35 years. Prior to that he had worked at Electrol in Kingston.
He was a longtime and active member of the Kingston Alliance Church, was a member Joyce Schirick Post #1386 VFW, and had been a member of the Kingston American Legion Post # 150., he had been a member of the 41 Club, former member of the Kingston Moose Lodge #970, where he had served as secretary. He had been a member of the Sons of Norway, he enjoyed camping, especially at North Lake, He also enjoyed woodworking and had been an avid gardener.
He is survived by his children Theodore J. Benson and his wife Jeannine of Kingston, Bonnie Palatini and her husband John of Palm Coast, FL, Betsy Soltys and her husband Charles of West Hurley, Steven A. Benson and wife Jeannie, Hurley, NY, and Nancy Holsten and her husband Mark, Deerfield Beach FL, --12 grand children, 23 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Mimi Gunn and Steven Benson.
Entrusted to the care of the Keyser Funeral Service, Inc., 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston. Friends may call on Thursday from 4 - 7 p.m . The service will be held at the Kingston Alliance Church, 90 Millers Lane, Kingston on Friday at 11:30 am. Rev. Paul Marshall, officiating.
Burial in Hurley Cemetery with military honors provided by Joyce Schirick Post # 1386 VFW.
