Theodore G. Barten

November 29, 1922 — December 27, 2012

Theodore G. Barten, 90, WWII Army veteran, NY Telephone employee, life-long Kingston resident.




He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Joan (Henry) Barten, his sons, Ted Barten and his wife Iris of Bolton, MA, Gary Barten and his partner Katherine Meyer of Alameda, CA, Paul Barten and his wife Donna of West Suffield, CT, and their children, Ellen & Michael Barten.




He is also survived by a sister, Katherine Clark and her husband Robert of Kingston, brother-in-law John O. Henry of Hurley and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Barten was pre-deceased by his brothers Henry and Raymond and sister Helen.




Mr. Barten was born in Kingston on Nov 29, 1922 to Anna and Frank Barten. He attended No. 6 School on O'Neil St and graduated from Kingston High School in 1941. Mr. Barten was honorably discharged from the US Army after serving in Europe with the 731st Field Artillery Battalion. Two weeks after returning home, he started work with the New York Telephone Company. After 41 years as an installer, a test board man and a switchman, Mr. Barten retired in 1986.




During his retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Barten traveled throughout the United States, Canada and Europe, enjoyed many concerts and theater productions and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren, Ellen and Michael. Mr. Barten was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and a member of Trout Unlimited.




Entrusted to the care of Luke Keyser of Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, where friends may call on Sunday from 2 - 5 pm. The funeral procession will form on Monday at 9 am and proceed to St. Peter's RC Church where at 10 am a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated with Father Marc Oliver, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, Kingston.




In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made to the St. Peter's Restoration Fund, 93 Wurts St., Kingston NY 12401.
