Thelma E. Van Aken, a longtime Kingston resident, died Friday, February 6, 2004 at the Golden Hill Health Care Facility. She was 84.
She was born in Canton, Ohio on June 28, 1919, a daughter of the late Raymond T. and Marita V. Davis Hartsough.
A Kingston resident for 35 year, Ms. Van Aken worked as a secretary for Spiegel Bros. Paper Co., Kingston for 16 years. She retired in 1979 and moved to New Port Richey, Florida where she worked as a private duty home health aid.
In 1997 Ms. Van Aken returned to this area and lived at Seven Greens Apartments, Town of Ulster.
A member of the First Presbyterian Church, she belong to the Fellowship Guild and the Dorfelmian Society. A member of A.A.R.P., she volunteered as a foster grandparent at Chambers School. She was well known in crafts circles as a sewer and crotchetier.
One brother Robert Hartsough died previously.
Surviving are one son Gary M. Van Aken Sr. of St. Remy, two daughters Pamela J. Sior of Kingston and Diane G. Rodriguez of New Paltz; six grandchildren, Gary Van Aken Jr., Matthew Van Aken, Beth Ann Akins, Noel Sior, David Sior and Joseph J. Todaro; great grandmother of Rebecca Lynn Akins, Nicholas Akins, Sarah Sior, Kay La Van Aken, Louise E. Van Aken, Laura Van Aken, Ireland Rose Todaro, Paris Rylie Todaro and Anastasia E. Sior.
Reposing at Simpson – Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9. The funeral will be Tuesday at 12:00 at the funeral home, Rev. David M. Brechter will officiate. Interment will be in Montrepose Cemetery.
