Sylvia Erber of Fisk St., Red Hook died Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at the Jewish Home and Hospital, Bronx, NY. She was 90.
She was born November 11, 1917 in New York City, a daughter of the late Robert and Martha Dolinko Schwartz.
A housewife, she was active in social justice causes. She campaigned for Norman Thomas, thaught clerical skills to half-way house residents, served as executive secretary to a New Jersey conservation organization, was an advocate for senior rights and health care and a founding mother of the Bard Life Long Learning Institute. She was an avid reader.
Surviving is her husband, Ernest Erber of Red Hook, her daughter, Elena Erber and her husband, Bernard Greenwald of Red Hook; her son Eric Erber of Hyde Park; her sister, Ilka Suarez of the Bronx and three grandchildren, Sasha Pearl, Isaiah Greenwald and Benjamin Greenwald.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, 3:00 pm in Montrepose Cemetery, Kingston.
