Sylvia D'Arcangelo died peacefully of natural causes on Monday, December 8, 2008 at her home on Bakertown Road in Accord, NY. She was 80 years old. She was active in the alternative health movement for four decades and had a successful facial rejuvenation practice in New York City and Kingston, NY. Born December 4, 1928 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of Joseph Resnick and Toba Melamed. Her two brothers, Paul and David, and one sister Barbara died previously. On September 6, 1997, she married Lee Ferezy of Accord. A long-time Ulster County resident, she lived in Rosendale, NY for 10 years and in Accord for 17. She was a vibrant member of the local alternative health and therapy community until her stroke in 2003. In 1975, she received her B.A. from Goddard College, now Vermont College, in Plainfield, VT. She collaborated with composer Pauline Oliveros on "Rose Moon," which premiered at Wesleyan University in 1978 and was later performed at La Mama Theater in New York. She worked as a choreographer and dancer in the 1970s. At the end of her career, she developed Second Blooming, a practice to help post-menopausal women maximize their lives. Survivors in addition to her husband Lee are her daughter Gabrielle Walters of Chico, CA; her son Gideon D'Arcangelo of Brooklyn, NY; her nephew Theo Kennedy of Middlesex, VT; granddaughters Toba and Sasha, grand-nieces Megan, Aine and Sasha and grand-nephew Patrick. Previously, she was married to the late artist Allan D'Arcangelo. They were married in 1954 and had three children; their eldest son, Christopher, died in 1979.
