Susan E. Williams Wallace of Kingston, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 29, 2021, at Kingston Hospital. Susan was born June 16, 1937, in White Plains, NY to the late Arthur L. Williams and Ellen Boddie Williams.
She graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh with a B.S. Degree in Education and later received her Master's Degree in Elementary Education from SUNY New Paltz. After having taught primarily first and second grades for 32 years, she retired in 1992 from the Onteora Central School District to begin another wonderful chapter in her life. Susan was an active and steadfast member of AME Zion Church of Kingston for 50+ years before she began worshipping at St. James United Methodist Church in Kingston, NY in recent years.
Susan's servant heart has always led her to give selflessly of her time, talents, and energy in every aspect of her life. She was the Treasurer of the Kingston City Democratic Committee, Committee Chairperson of the 5th Ward in the City of Kingston, a member of the Human Rights Task Force on Education, Secretary of the Mid-Hudson Valley Chapter of the New York Head Injury Association and Second Vice-President of the Board of Directors of Gateway Community Industries, Inc. Because of her contributions to others the mayor declared October 28, 1995, to be "Susan Wallace Day" in the city of Kingston.
Susan's philanthropic work continued as a member of Excelsior Chapter No. 72, Order of the Easter Star, Mary's Court No. 11, Heroines of Jericho, Elejmal Court No. 171, DOI, Pentecost Assembly No. 86, Order of the Golden Circle and Esther Court No. 4, Ladies of the Circle of Perfection.
Susan started bowling in the 1970's, even traveling for tournaments throughout the U.S., only to recently retire her shoes in 2020 as a member of the Early Bird League. She loved to travel, has been on numerous cruises and was no stranger to any slot machine she met.
Susan leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 59 years, John, two daughters, Linda Wallace Peele (Kenneth) of Kingston, NY, Lisa Wallace of Atlanta, GA, one son, Arthur Wallace of Kingston, NY, two sisters, Audrey Kithcart of Kingston, NY, Sharon Williams of Brooklyn, NY, nephews, Larry Kithcart, Jr. of Kingston, NY and Shen Williams-Cohen of Brooklyn, NY, special cousins Michele Utley (James) of Raleigh, NC, James Stacy Utley (Crystal) of Charlotte, NC and Jason Shawn Utley (Carla) of Raleigh, NC, Kay Medley ("Dolly") of Conway, SC, dear longtime friends, Barbara Day of Buffalo, NY, Ezella Marable of Kingston, NY and a host of relatives and friends.
Arrangements entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Ave., Kingston, NY 12401, where family and friends may visit on Saturday, September 4, 2021, from 10am to 11am. The funeral service will begin at 11am followed by entombment in the Wiltwyck Cemetery Mausoleum, Kingston, NY. In the interest of public safety, face coverings and social distancing are required.
