Stephen ''Spanky'' James Murphy, 74, of Sackett Street, Port Ewen, NY, died Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at his residence. He was born September 26, 1933 in Connelly, NY to the late James S. and Lucy Maurer Murphy.

He was married to Sylvia Marie (Severson) Murphy. They were married at Presentation RC Church on May 19, 1957.

He was graduate of Kingston High School. Served in the US Army during the Korean War, attaining the rank of sergeant.

He had been employed by IBM of Kingston as a graphic designer. He retired in 1990 after 34 years of service. He was a communicant of Presentation RC Church, had been a volunteer fireman with the Connelly Fire Department and the Sawkill Fire Department, he had been active with the Boy Scouts of America, serving as an awards leader. Had been the equipment manager at the Ulster Little League, member St. Ann's Holy Name Society, was an avid fisherman, and his free time was spent woodworking and building boats.

In addition to his wife a he is survived by Daughter, Jeannette Ferguson, Port Ewen, NY; Sons, Stephen J. Murphy, Jr., West Shokan, NY; Timothy Murphy, Phoenix, AZ; Brother, Thomas Murphy, Clifton Park, NY, 5 Grandchildren. Predeceased by his Brothers, Vincent Silk, Gerald and Kenneth Murphy.

Entrusted to the care of the Keyser Funeral Service, Inc., 216 Broadway, Port Ewen, where the procession will form on Saturday at 9:30 am and proceed to Presentation R.C. Church where at 10:00 am a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Peter Vianney.

Entombment in Wiltwyck Cemetery, Kingston with military honors provided by Joyce Schirick Post # 1386 VFW. Friends may call at Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.
