Sophie Appa, of 3rd Avenue, Kingston and Gulfport, Florida died Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at Benedictine Hospital. She was 96.
She was born in Kingston on March 6, 1910, a daughter of the late Jacob and Rosalind Wroblewski. On November 18, 1928 she married Albert M. “Ruby” Appa.
In the late 1930’s and early 1940’s Mrs. Appa worked with her husband and nephew, Joe, when they owned a Kingston area oil company. Her career included various positions in Kingston area garment factories. She retired as a floor lady for Judy Lane on Cornell St. She was a parishioner of the Immaculate Conception Church.
For the past 50 years she enjoyed living in both Gulfport, Florida and Kingston, NY.
Her husband, Albert, died June 15, 2001. One sister, Helen Mazdin, and three brothers Frank Wroblewski, Edward and Stephen Wroblewski all died previously. Surviving are her daughter Rosalind “Lindy” Chiarot and her husband Arthur of Saugerties, one sister Claire Corcoran, of Kingston, her grandchildren Charles Tiano Jr. and his wife Eileen and Dawn Kearney and her husband Peter; her great grandchildren Brooke Anne Tiano and Allison Rose Tiano, many nieces and nephews.
Reposing at the Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral will be Saturday at 9:00 AM from the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Immaculate Conception Church at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Town of Ulster.
