Sonia Anna Gordon, formerly of Phoenicia, NY and West Palm Beach, FL died Thursday evening at the Hearthstone Assisted Living Facility in Roswell, GA. She was born in Russia on July 15, 1916, the daughter of the late Hyman and Molly "Manya" Turin. After her father's death, Mrs. Gordon immigrated to this country as a young child and eventually moved to Kingston, NY.
She married Philip Gordon on June 22, 1941 and they resided in Phoenicia until Phil died in 1998. She is predeceased by her mother, Mollie Turin Lapp Gordon and her step father, Herman Lapp.
A graduate of Kingston High School and SUNY New Paltz, where she received a teaching degree. Mrs. Gordon taught in the Onteora Central Schools for 20 years. She was a former member of Temple Emanuel, Kingston and the Sisterhood. Mrs. Gordon was a former member of the Rondout Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star. She moved to West Palm Beach, Florida and belonged to the Brandeis Women's Club where she served as co-president. More recently, Mrs. Gordon moved closer to her daughter and son in law to Marietta, GA. Surviving are her daughter Nancy Krosner and her husband Stephen of Marietta, GA; her son Chester Gordon of Poughkeepsie, NY; two grandsons Jeffrey and David Krosner, their spouses, Christy and Yudit; four great grandchildren Reesa, Jonah, Samuel and Zachary Krosner. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday at 11:00 AM at Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. Rabbi Yael Romer will officiate. Interment will be in Montrepose Cemetery.
