Sinclair E. Blake, Sr., 71, of Lipton Street, Kingston, died Sunday, July 24, 2011 at Benedictine Hospital after a short illness.
Mr. Blake was a personal tailor for many customers. He graduated from the Culinary Institute of Jamaica. He was a Master Chef and had worked for several local restaurants. He worked for IBM as Executive Chef at The Homestead in Poughkeepsie. When IBM transferred The Homestead to Armonk he went to Ulster County Community College and became a computer analyst for IBM. He retired from IBM in 2000.
He was a Deacon at the Pointe of Praise Family Life Center where he was a faithful and active member who enjoyed cooking for church functions. He was an active Police Commissioner for the City of Kingston, a member of the Sunrise Rotary Club of Kingston and served on the Girl Scout Board of Directors. His passion was cooking and creating meals for his family and friends. He also loved to garden and travel.
Born January 9, 1940 in Jamaica, West Indies, Sinclair is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Geraldine "Gerrie" Brandon Blake, his children Sinclair E. Blake, Jr., Veronica E. Williams and Jennifer L. Blake, his mother Iceline Whitton, two brothers, Ferdinand Taylor and Rudolph Whitton, a sister, Doris Whitton, a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Samuel Whitton, a brother Osbourne Whitton and his granddaughter Angelika Williams.
Visitation will be at the Pointe of Praise Family Life Center, 243 Hurley Avenue, Sunday from 2-8 p.m. The Homegoing Service will be held Monday at 1:00 p.m. at Pointe of Praise with the Elder James Childs presiding. Burial to follow at Wiltwyck Cemetery.
