Shirley Volin, 98, of New Paltz, died at home on Monday, April 19, 2021 surrounded by her loving daughters and dedicated caregivers.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Friedman & Betty Soltoff. Shirley divided her life between being a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, and her work as a psychotherapist. She had a life-long passion for opera and classical music. With her unrelenting thirst for knowledge she learned to swim and ride a bike as an adult, studied meditation, was an early adopter of Apple technology, she was always learning. Her interest in natural health continued throughout her life and she shared it with her children and grandchildren. She loved her work and continued seeing clients until she was 96 when she retired and moved to New Paltz. Shirley developed deep and lasting friendships. All who met and knew her found themselves fascinated, impressed, and inspired by her energy and “joie de vivre.”
Shirley is survived by her two daughters, Jill Berkowicz and Susan Volin, a sister, Blanche Jacobs, four grandchildren, Joshua, Noah, Isabelle and Benjamin, great-grandson, Ethan and nephew, Eric.
A Graveside Service will be held at 1PM on Thursday, April 22, 2021, at Montrepose Cemetery.
The family requests that any memorial donations be made to Hudson Valley Hospice, 400 Aaron CT, Kingston, NY 12401.
