Shirley E. Seeger, 1927-2024. Surrounded by her family, Shirley E. Seeger of Kingston died at Health Alliance Hospital on Monday, January 15, 2024 after a long illness. She was 96 and a lifelong resident of the city. Shirley was the daughter of the late Herbert A. Townsend and the late Ethel Livingston Townsend. She graduated from Kingston High School, Class of 1946 after which she attended the Kingston Hospital Nursing School and graduated as a Registered Nurse. Shirley worked at Kingston Hospital in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department for 39 years before retiring in 1993. Prior to her illness she was an active member of the Saint James United Methodist Church at the corner of Fair and Pearl Streets in Kingston where she served on numerous lay committees, maintained the Chancel Choir’s Music Library, and volunteered at the Happy to Help Food Pantry. Shirley loved the seashore and traveling with her family. She enjoyed all sorts of music and was an avid fan of the New York Yankees. Surviving are her two sons; C. Fred Seeger III and his wife Margie (Riester) and Geoffrey L. Seeger and his wife Torie (Hoveman) all of Kingston. Shirley is also survived by two grandchildren; Abbie Elizabeth Seeger of New York City and Benjamin David Seeger and his wife Jennifer (Selke) of Cohoes, NY as well as three great-grandchildren; Rachel Grace Seeger, Charlotte Faith Seeger, and Julia Hope Seeger. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She is predeceased by her husband Charles F. Seeger Jr. and two brothers; Robert Townsend and his wife Dorothy (Strubel) and Leo Townsend and his wife Dorothy (Schiavone). Arrangements are under the guidance of Keyser Funeral Cremation and Funeral Service, 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, NY 12401 where family and friends will be received on Tuesday January 23, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon. A Memorial Service will immediately follow at 12:00 noon at the funeral home. Internment will take place at Wiltwyck Cemetery in a private family gathering. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. James United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 35 Pearl St., Kingston, New York 12401, or the Alzheimer’s Association, 2649 South Rd. #101, Poughkeepsie, New York 12601.
