Shirley Laurentiev, age 93
Former Staten Islander Shirley Laurentiev nee Baier passed peacefully on Saturday
October 29, 2022 at the Baptist Home at Brookmeade in Rhinebeck NY, where she
was convalescing after a hospital stay.
The daughter of the late Frederick and Maude Baier, she was born in New Jersey,
but resided on Staten Island for the greater part of her life. Shirley was a 1947
graduate of New Dorp High School and was married to the late John Laurentiev,
with whom she had two children.
Shirley was an active member of the Church of St. Andrew in Richmondtown,
where she was on the Altar Guild. She also was a member and former treasurer of
the Episcopal Church Women for many years. A talented and avid seamstress, she
worked on the church Holiday Fair for more than 20 years, chairing the popular
Toy Table. Shirley was also a long-time member of the Eastern Star. When her
children were growing up, she was also a Den Mother for her son’s Cub Scout
pack, and was the Cookie Lady for her daughter’s Girl Scout troop.
Shirley was predeceased in 2005 by her husband John, and she is
survived by daughter June Main, with whom she lived in Kingston NY, and son
John Laurentiev Jr. and his wife Kathleen of Hyde Park, NY. She is also survived
by five grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
A graveside service and burial will be held at the Church of St. Andrew on
November 21, 2022 at 11 AM. Memorials may be sent to St. Jude Children’s
