Sheldon Robert "Bob" Harris Sr. of Stuyvesant Charter Apartments, Sheehan Ct., Kingston, died Sunday, March 30, 2008 at Benedictine Hospital after a long illness. He was 61.
He was born in New York City on January 27, 1947, a son of William Harris and the late Ruth Parker Harris who died in 1988. Mr. Harris was raised in the Bronx. A general contractor, for many years he owned and operated Robert's Construction and Repairs.
In 1971 he moved to Kingston and worked security at Stony Run Apartments from 1983 - 2004. Mr. Harris was appointed as a correction officer to the Ulster County Sheriff's Department in January 1980. He was promoted to Deputy Sheriff and served until 1985.
An avid hunter and fisher, Mr. Harris belonged to the Sons of the Legion, Post 150.
One sister Faith Harris died previously.
Surviving in addition to his father of Saugerties, is his companion of 31 years, Vicki Stokes; three sons Sheldon and Simon Harris, both of Jacksonville, FL, Sean Harris of Kingston; one daughter Donna Harris of Jacksonville, FL; three brothers Richard Harris of Ocala, FL, Sean Harris of Stone Ridge and William Harris Jr. of Accord; one sister Sandy Hawver of Boiceville; nine grandchildren; one great granddaughter, many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be conducted on Saturday at 3:30 PM at Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Avenue, Kingston. Fr. Louis Yaya, Chaplain at Benedictine Hospital, will officiate.
