Sharon Lane

May 8, 1944 — December 20, 2024

It is with great sadness that the family of Sharon (Lowe) Lane announce her passing on Friday, December 20, 2024 at the age of 80. She was born on May 8, 1944 in Kingston, NY to the late Harry F. Lowe and Ethel (Ellsworth) Lowe. Sharon was pre-deceased by her husband, Lawrence (“Larry”) Lane, and her beloved cats, who were named to follow T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, but affectionately known as Franklin, Sasquatch (“Sassy”), Peaches, Asparagus (“Gus”), Woody, and Burt. Sharon is also pre-deceased by her sister-in-law, Marion (“Sue”) Lane (Larry White).

Sharon will be lovingly remembered by her brother, Harry F. Lowe, her sisters-in-law, Jane (Lane) Lowenstein (Ron Wendt) and Priscilla Lowe. She was adored by her nieces and nephews, including Amy (Lowe) Perconti (Alfonso), Heidi (Lowe) Davidson (Neil), Adam Lowenstein (Irina Reyn), and Noah Lowenstein (Bonnie Settlage). She enjoyed doting on and bragging about her great nieces and nephews, Alexander and Ava Perconti, Lauren and Zachary Davidson, and Simone Lowenstein. She will be missed by cousins, neighbors, dear friends, and special caregivers in San Francisco, CA, Loudonville, NY, and at the Fountains at Rivervue, Tuckahoe, NY.

Sharon attended the Number 6 School, which eventually became Brigham Elementary School in Kingston, and later graduated from Kingston High School - Class of 1961. She attended Barnard College, and then transferred to the State University of New York at New Paltz, where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. She received her Master’s Degree in Social Work from the State University of New York at Albany. She worked for many years for the New York State Government before relocating to San Francisco and working for the state of California. Upon returning to New York, she worked for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development before her retirement in 2017.

Sharon was a gifted storyteller, a collector of owls and other fine art, an avid reader, a connoisseur of wine, and was always up for a good political discussion. She enjoyed the New York City Ballet at SPAC, and cultivated a love for Broadway musicals within her family. She enjoyed genealogy, travelling, could beat anyone at trivia, and was very proud to have lovingly restored her historic brownstone on Hudson Avenue in Albany, NY to its original 1857 grandeur. She was also a historian of Kingston, NY and the surrounding area. The Louw-Bogardus Mill House built in 1661 was of particular interest given its connection to the family. She was an active supporter of the Ulster County SPCA, the Catskill Animal Sanctuary, the Ulster County Genealogical Society, and Friends of Historic Kingston, among others.

Arrangements entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, NY 12401, where family and friends may visit on Friday December 27, 2024, from 12pm to 2pm, with the funeral service taking place at 2pm.
