Seymour Markowitz

Seymour Markowitz, 91, of Tamarac, Florida, formerly of Liberty and Kingston, New York, died Saturday, April 19, 2014 at his home. Born in Brooklyn, New York and raised in Seagate, he was the son of the late Jack and Lottie Markowitz. He was a World War II veteran who saw combat in Europe and North Africa and had the distinction of being part of the Normandy Invasion with the 82nd Airborne Division. After returning home from the military, he attended The Art Students' League. For 38 years he worked in the wholesale liquor industry as a salesman for Service Liquor of Schenectady, New York. From 1983 to 1988 he was an Adjunct Professor in the School of Hotel Management at Sullivan County Community College. He will be lovingly remembered by family and friends as a gifted artist, great story teller, avid golfer, a loving husband to Blanche Levy Markowitz, his wife of 63 years, a wonderful father and devoted grandfather. He is survived by his daughter, Beth Gordon and her husband Warren of Ridgewood, New Jersey, two grandchildren, Zach Gordon of Jersey City, New Jersey and Ally Gordon of New York City. The funeral service and interment will be private.
