Seymour "Sy" Kassler, 83, of Kingston, died in his home on May 22, 2014 surrounded by his loving family.
Sy was born in NYC of Mary and Aaron Kassler.
Sy was a war vet and served in the Korean War and on the US Air force. He was the VP of the Mid City Lanes Bowling League and a treasurer for the Democratic Party of Ulster County. He loved to serve others as a volunteer and served for many years as a cook at the Angel Food Kitchen, as Bingo Team Captain at Saint Joseph's Church, and with the elderly playing cards at Golden Hill. He retired from a long and distinguished career in the US Postal Service.
Sy is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carmen Rijos Kassler, and his eight children: Linda Nelson, William Kassler, Rita Louise, Jon Kassler, Cory Kassler, Cris Hendrick, Teri Tucci, and Roxan Plunkett, and all of his daughters and sons-in-law whom he loved dearly. Sy is also survived by two brothers: Gerald Kassler and Ernie Kovari. He has 25 grandchildren, one great grandson, two nieces and one nephew who also survive.
The family will receive friends at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave on Friday, May 23, 2014 from 10:00 11:00 AM.
The Funeral Service will follow at the funeral home at 11:00 AM with Rabbi Yael Romer of Temple Emanuel officiating.
Entombment will follow in the Wiltwyck Community Mausoleum.
