Samuel C. McCoubrey

Samuel C. McCoubrey, 79, of Hemlock Ave., Kingston, died Friday, October 22, 2010 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born July 31, 1931 in Tannersville, NY to the late Samuel G. and Florence (Conley) McCoubrey.




He was the husband of Janet Shults McCoubrey; they wed on June 12th, 1954 at the home of her parents.




Mr. McCoubrey was a 1950 graduate of Windham - Ashland - Jewett High School, after High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, and attained the rank of Sergeant, having served during the Korean War era. Upon completing his service to his country, he graduated from Hartwick College, Class of 1957, with a degree in Business Administration.




Mr. McCoubrey was a computer programmer for IBM Kingston for 37 years, retiring in 1989.




He had been a very active member of the Hidden Harbor Yacht Club for over 40 years, having served as Commodore and Treasurer. He was a former member of the Board of Trustees of Wiltwyck Cemetery and the Kingston Civil Service Commission. His hobbies and interests included salt water fishing, boating, traveling in this country and abroad, golfing and driving, having driven in all 50 states.




In addition to his wife he is survived by his children Cathrine Jean McCoubrey, Kingston, NY, Nancy Lee Ferrelli, Spring Lake, NJ, son Samuel C. McCoubrey, Jr., Kingston, NY, Pamela M. Zambrano, Ridgefield Park, NJ, 9 Grandchildren, 3 Great Grandchildren, a sister Marion McCoubrey Ostrander, Kingston, several nieces and nephews.




A Celebration of Sam's life will be held at Mariner's Harbor, 1 Broadway, Kingston on Tuesday, October 26th, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.




In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hudson River Maritime Museum, 50 Rondout Landing, Kingston, NY 12401 or Hidden Harbor Yacht Club, PO Box 133, Port Ewen, NY 12466. Inurnment will take place at Ashland Cemetery in Windham at the convenience of the family. Light a candle in memory of Sam at www.KeyserFuneralService.com .
