Sam Shapiro

Sam Shapiro of Woodstock and New York City died July 15, 2011 in Manhattan. He was 89. He was born in Fall River, MA, a son of the late Elias and Bessie Ratner Shapiro. Mr. Shapiro taught in the New York City schools and retired as Acting Department Head. He maintained his Woodstock residence for over 50 years. Brother of Fred Shapiro of Delray Beach, FL; uncle of Bruce Shapiro, Arlene Woods, Matt Shapiro and Ellen Werbin. Many other nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews survive. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. Cantor Bob Cohen will officiate. Interment will follow in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
