Sadeth Johanna (Everson) Schley passed from this earthly life – peacefully, in her sleep - in the early morning of Sunday, December 10, 2017, in the loving presence of family members. She was born in Tuckahoe, Westchester County, NY on October 10th, 1924 to Scandinavian parents, Ever C. and Anna B. (Johansson) Everson. S
Sadeth attended Cooper Union School of Art, Ulster County Community College, and graduated from SUNY New Paltz with a Bachelors Degree in Music. For many years, she shared her teaching talents and love of music with numerous piano students in the area.
Sadeth had a long (93 years), eventful (artist, musician, farmer, teacher, urban aesthete, rural pioneer, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother), and difficult (twice widowed, single parent, migraine sufferer, crippling arthritic, diabetic) journey. She lived an independent, nonconformist lifestyle, finding the humor in the most challenging situations. She taught us to think creatively and to lead examined lives. Recycling, reuse, and making-do or doing without were her way of life - decades before those practices became popular.
Close and extended family and many friends have been Blessed by her presence in their lives; with countless shared memories and family lore, the gifts of music and art, and enduring character qualities and personal values counted among their rich inheritance. She was, like her name, unique. Earth was her element; she lived as close to it as she could, tilled it for sustenance, pastured her animals on it, recorded its wonder on canvas, paper and piano. Now she is embraced by it.
She is survived by daughter Carla (Mark) Knudsen; their son David (Carrie) Knudsen and their two children, all of Valatie, NY; daughter Anne (Randy) Ross and their children, of Buskirk, NY.
Sadeth was predeceased by her third husband Eugene K. Schley (1966); two special brothers, Lewis and George Everson; and a sister, Edith Everson, who did not survive childhood. She now journeys in Peace to join beloved family, friends, and pets, who preceded her into the great beyond. Services will be private, and arrangements are in the care of A. Carr & Son Funeral Home, Kingston, NY.
