Ruth H. Smith of Madison Ave., Kingston died Friday, July 3, 2009 at Ten Broeck Commons Nursing Home. She was 93.
She was born in South Norwalk, CT on April 12, 1916, a daughter of the late Reuben and Louise Marie Oldenschlager Hawkins. Ruth was raised in Darien, CT. She received as B.S.N. from Columbia University in nursing education and became a registered nurse.
On March 29, 1947 she married Robert L. Smith. For 32 years Ruth and her husband owned and operated "Kingswood" (a boys camp) in Pike, NH.
Ruth previously lived in Quechee, VT, Larchmont and New Rochelle, NY, and Wellington, FL.
A Kingston resident for the past 10 years, she was active in St. John's Episcopal Church.
Two sisters Louise H. Sayles and Alice Holly both died previously.
Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Robert L. Smith; two sons Thomas F. Smith and his wife Laura of Snowmass, CO, Patrick L. Smith of Hong Kong and Norfolk, CT; one daughter Lynn S. Dennison and her husband Robert of Kingston; two brothers John E. Hawkins of Cleveland, OH and Stewart D. DeWitt of Dayton, OH; four grandchildren Lily and Jake Smith, Andrew and Chris Dennison; many nieces and nephews.
Reposing at the Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Service will be conducted Wednesday at noon at St. John's Episcopal Church, 207 Albany Ave., Kingston.
