Russell E. Howard Sr. of Neighborhood Road died Monday, December 29, 2003 at Benedictine Hospital. He was 93.
He was born in Kingston on October 29, 1910, a son of the late Lemuel and Mary Howard. For 25 years Mr. Howard was the manager of the Bull Market in Kingston.
He previously served the City of Kingston as Commissioner of the Department of Public Welfare. Mr. Howard retired as vice president of Prospect Dairys and Hi-Health Milk Co., NY where he worked for 15 years.
An avid golfer, Mr. Howard was a parishioner of St. Catherine Laboure Church and a member of the Kingston Council #275, Knights of Columbus.
His wife Mary Murphy Howard died August 10, 1985. One granddaughter Alison Lyn Elliott, three brothers Paul, Lemuel and James Howard, and six sisters Elizabeth Swift, Nellie andre, Evelyn Winne, Priscilla Bilyou, Ruth Best and Mary J. Howard all died previously.
Surviving are one daughter Beverly Elliott and her husband Alvin of Lake Katrine; one son Russell E. Howard Jr. of Gainsville, Florida; two sisters Pearl Prebis of Little Falls and Geraldine Howard of Kingston; a dear friend Mary Bunten; one granddaughter Colleen Fairbrother and her husbannd Peter; two great grandsons Justin and Evan Fairbrother; many nieces and nephews.
Reposing at Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Avenue on Friday 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 PM. The Kingston Council #275 Knights of Columbus will conduct a prayer service on Friday evening at 7:30 PM. The funeral will be Saturday at 9:15 AM from the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Catherine Laboure Church at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
