Rose L. Miller, 96, of Pine Plains, died Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Ferncliff Nursing Home, Rhinebeck. She was the wife of the late Gerald E. Miller who passed in 1980.
Born in Massena, NY, she was a daughter of the late Rabbi Chiam & Maggie (Mollie) Rudnick Landsman. Rose graduated from the Brooklyn Jewish Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1937 and worked at the hospital until 1942. She entered the US Air Corp of Nursing and then volunteered to be a pioneer in flight nursing through the Army Air Corp and served in the Pacific Theater of Operations. In February of 1945, she married Gerald Miller.
In January of 1946 Martin was born, the 1st of three children; Marlene in April of 1947 and Kenneth in August of 1950. In 1955, she reentered nursing duty services and continued working for the next 20 years. After moving to Pine Plains, she worked as a relief supervisor for the Adventist Nursing Home for 9 years. She was a member of the WWII Flight Nurses Association and a member of the American Legion in Pine Plains where she was named the Grand Marshall of the Memorial Day Parade in 2012.
She is survived by three children, Marlene Lynn of Franklin Square, Martin "Marty" Miller and Kenneth Miller, both of Pine Plains. Two grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Tyson and Douglas Lynn and two great grandchildren, Elaina Tyson and Kira Lynn. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, Milton Landsman, Elizabeth Center, Belle Landsman, Moishe Landsman, Miriam Cohen and Esther Jacobs.
