Robert Edison Sickler, age 87, passed away peacefully on April 18th, 2017. Robert, known to all his friends and family as "Bob", is survived by his devoted wife Pauline Sickler of Kingston, NY, his son Robert H. Sickler and daughter-in-law Barbara (Heitzman) Sickler of Stone Ridge, NY, granddaughter Alison R. Sickler of Watsonville, CA, and cousin Coralie (Sickler) Barlow who was like a sister to him from East Durham, NY. He was preceded in death by his first wife Gertrude (Franz) Sickler.
Bob was born on October 21, 1929 in Kingston, NY to parents Hiram D. Sickler and Rachel (Scott) Sickler. He graduated from Kingston High School in 1948. Many people will remember Bob as the "best shoe salesman in Kingston" working many years for Greenwald's and Glynn's Shoe Stores on Fair and Wall Streets. He was also an accomplished musician and played piano/organ in a band called the Music Makers. After retirement he enjoyed entertaining at senior centers and local cruises where he often was surrounded by voices of the audience singing along to all their favorites of the 40's and 50's.
Bob was a great husband, family man, caring father and grandfather. He married Pauline in 1994 and he was welcomed into a second loving family consisting of many children, grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he adored. His family and friends will always remember him as quick with a "corny" joke, a man who loved to eat (especially desserts), never complaining, always having a smile on his face, and loved by all who met him.
