Deacon Robert Paul “Bob” Winrow, 86, of Kingston, NY passed away on November 21, 2018, at his home surrounded by family.
Born on July 12, 1932 to Harold E and Elizabeth (Coughlin) Winrow in Somerville, Massachusetts, Bob enjoyed a childhood of playing every sport imaginable with friends. He married Dorothy Harrington Winrow in July of 1956 and together they shared 62 years of devoted partnership. Bob was a graduate of Tufts University, class of 1955; a revered career manager at IBM, where he worked from 1955 – 1993, and at Hudson Valley Technology Corporation, where he then worked from 1993 –2006. He was ordained as a Deacon for the Archdiocese of New York on February 11, 1978; he was beloved by the St. Joseph’s Church community where he served for 40 years.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William, and will be honored by his wife Dorothy and their five children, who survive him in this life: Robert Paul Jr (Dorinda), Mark (Donna), Marilyn (Jack) Dillon, Claudia (Randy) Bitonte, and John Douglas (Millie).
Meticulous and resolute, kind and patient, intelligent and creative, Bob dedicated his full being to every task at hand. Whether he was providing and caring for his family, crafting heartfelt homilies, solving engineering and management problems, or admiring a sunrise over the Cape Cod horizon, Bob connected with and manifested the profound with an elegant simplicity. He was a thoughtful listener and steadfast husband/father/grandparent/friend, and he will be greatly missed.
His legacy lives on through his close family, with which he celebrated many wonderful times. They have supported each other throughout his illness and will now bond together in this time of grief to celebrate him. In addition to his five children, he is survived by 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, each of whom now has a special fondness for his Red Sox’s eigth-inning chorus ‘Sweet Caroline.’
