Robert Olson Wemple, of Rosa Lane, Hurley, died Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at his home. He was 90.
He was born in Gloversville, NY a son of the late Henry and Noma Olson Wemple.
Robert served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 1945 as a flight aviation mechanic on a PBY-5A Navy patrol bomber and was awarded a Navy Air Metal and a Gold Star. From 1956 until retirement in 1986, he was the chief plant engineer at Kingston Hospital.
Robert attended the Freemont Methodist Church in Gloversville and was a long time member of St. James Methodist Church in Kingston. At St. James, he served on the Board of Trustees and as a communion steward. He also served on the Board of Directors of Gateway Industries and as a former member of the Town of Hurley planning board.
His wife of 60 yrs., Jean Morrison Wemple, died February 11, 2007. A sister, Janis Dimick died previously.
Robert is survived by his two sons, David H. Wemple and his wife Barbara of Albany and Peter M. Wemple and his wife Lin of Lake Katrine; a sister, Kathryn Montayne and a brother, Elwood Wemple, both of Mayfield, NY. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A memorial service will be held at St. James Methodist Church in Kingston on Saturday, July 10 at 1:00 PM. Pastor David Jolly will officiate.
