Robert J McConekey

Robert J. McConekey, 70, of Kingston, NY, died Saturday, August 6, 2011 at home. He was born September 18, 1940 in Kingston, NY to the late Harry J. McConekey and Mary R. Purcell.




He was married to his loving wife of 46 years Susan M. (Fries) McConekey.




Robert served his country in the United States Army 101st Airborne Division as a CPL SGT E4 until his honorable discharge in 1961.




Robert and his wife Susan owned and operated A. Carr & Son Funeral Home in Kingston for 35 years.




He was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Kingston, a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, a member of AMVETS 101st Airborne Div US Army, and The Rotary Club of Kingston. He was also a former board member of the Hudson Valley Senior Residence.




In addition to his wife he is survived by his children Dr. Christine K. Biel and her husband Dr. Kelley Biel of Kansas City, Kansas, Anne Marie Badalato and her husband Nicholas of Kingston, Dr. Robert P. McConekey and his wife Dr. Carine McConekey of Wilmington, NC, Alison Q. McConekey of New York, NY, 8 grandchildren, Jordan and Brittany Biel, Lauren, Alison and Nicholas Badalato, Kelly, Megan and Ryan McConekey, a sister Janet Manley of Lexington, SC, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.




In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his brother Richard H. McConekey.




Entrusted to the care of the A. Carr & Son Funeral Home, 65 Lucas Ave, Kingston, NY 12401, where the procession will form on Wednesday at 9:00 am and proceed to St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Kingston, where at 10:00 am mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.




Burial will follow in St. Mary of The Snow Cemetery, Saugerties, NY.




Friends may call on Tuesday from 1-4 and 7-9 pm at the funeral home.




In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Robert J. McConekey Memorial Fund for High School Athletics, c/o Nicholas Badalato, 157 Hillside Terrace, Kingston, NY 12401.
