Robert Herbert Sudlow passed on February 10, 2017 at the Golden Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on April 11, 1923 to the late Howard and Florence (Young) Sudlow in Elmhurst, Queens. He was raised in Annandale Rego Park, Queens and graduated from Newtown High School.
Bob was a World War II combat veteran serving as a forward observer with the 928th Field Artillery, Battery B 103 Division U.S. Army with rank of Corporal (T). His tour in combat included in France and Germany. He participated in the liberation of Kaufering concentration camp and was deployed to guard the Brenner Pass in Austria to prevent any enemy retreat when the war against Germany ended. He returned to the U.S. and was training for the invasion of Japan when the war with Japan ended.
Bob married Sheila Evelyn Ferguson on November 23,1947 and relocated to Randolph Township, N.J. as he began his 35 year career with Suburban Propane. He was tranferred to Kingston as District Manager in 1969 and subsequently retired in 1985. Bob and Sheila enjoyed their winters in Port Charlotte and Stuart, FL and their summers at their home in Ocean Beach, N.J. They travelled extensively during their retirement and made many friends. Some of their many destinations included China, Italy, Greece, France, Ireland, England, Russia, Scotland, Panama Canal, Bermuda, Alaska and Hawaii.
Bob is survived by his wife of 69 years, Sheila, his son Robert and and his wife, Nancy Jean, his daughter, Lynne and her husband, Martin Jordan and grandson, Kyle and his wife Ashley Jordan. Kyle spent 15 wonderful summers with Nan & Pop beginning at age 7. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son Richard in 1989, his sister Florence, niece Leslie Dongara and Brothers and Sisters-in-law. Three nephews and a niece will remember Uncle Bob.
Arrangements are under the direction of Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service in Kingston. There will be no calling hours and the funeral will be private at the family's convenience. Interrment will be at the Hurley Cementary with military honors by Joyce Schirick Post #1386 VFW.
