Robert G. DeWitt

Robert G. "Bob" DeWitt, 86, of Parkside Drive, Lake Katrine, NY, passed peacefully at home Saturday evening, surrounded by family and friends. He was born September 3, 1924 in Kingston to the late Frederick and Anna Kelder DeWitt.




He was the husband of the late Elizabeth "Betty" Smith DeWitt. They wed on September 3 1949, and would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary this year.



Mr. DeWitt was a graduate of Kingston High School, class of 1943. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during World War II in the European - African Theater of Operations.




Mr. DeWitt had been an Installer for Western Electric, Kingston, until his retirement in 1983.




He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, a life member of the Ruby Fire Department and past treasurer, a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, Nine Pin bowling league, Thursday Night Horseshoe League. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, outdoorsman and enjoyed yearly camping trips with his family.




Robert is survived by his daughters Karen Schaefer and her fianc Robert Sekel, Lake Katrine, NY, Janis Exstrand and her husband Stephen, Sawkill, NY, Lisa Leary and her husband Clifton, Dickinson Center, NY, grandchildren Jared and Jessica Exstrand, a sister Marjorie Hornbeck, Kingston, NY, and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Barbara DeWitt, Frances Pretsch, John "Jackie" DeWitt, Ethel Boos, Elizabeth Windisch and Frederick DeWitt.




Forever in our hearts. He is entrusted to the care of the Keyser Funeral Service, Inc., 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston. The family will receive their friends on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The service will be held on Saturday October 16th at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. Dr. David Brechter, officiating.
