Robert F. ''Rip'' Ennist, 74, of St. Remy, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at home surrounded by his family. He was born June 8, 1942 in Kingston to the late Robert and Hilda (Frost) Ennist.
He was married to his loving wife of 49 years, Arlene (Howard) Ennist, they wed on September 27th 1968. Shortly after graduating from Kingston High School, Bob joined the US Army National Guard in 1959 and was Honorably Discharged in 1967 at the rank of SP5.
Bob joined the St. Remy Fire Department in 1961 where he was an active member for 40 years and became a life member. He held many offices including Chief, Asst. Chief, President and Vice President. He was also a member of the Board of Fire Commissioners for 20 years. Bob worked at NY Telephone, Bell Atlantic and Verizon for 31 years before retiring in 1997 and then continued to work part time as an Engineering consultant until 2009.
An avid hunter and fisherman, Bob enjoyed the outdoors and spent many days at his camp in Indian Lake, NY. He was a former member of the Gooley, Salmon Pond, and Rock Pond Clubs in the Adirondacks. He was appointed as a Sportsman Representative to the Region 5 DEC Fish and Wildlife board representing Hamilton County.
Bob loved country music, the New York Yankees and NASCAR. He spent many years coaching and managing his son's Little League teams. He also attended most of his daughter's high school and college softball games traveling as far away as Hutchinson, Kansas. He also enjoyed going to as many of his grandchildren's games as possible.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Michael Ennist and his partner Monica Garrity of California, Barbara Jankowski and her husband Michael of Ulster Park, Gregory Thompson of Ulster Park, Kevin Thompson and his wife Whitney of Florida; his beloved grandchildren, Sydney and Julia Jankowski, Dylan, Austin, and Blair Thompson, and Jeannette Morrison of California, one grandchild, Harper Morrison; as well as several cousins and many dear friends in St. Remy and Indian Lake.
Entrusted to the care of Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 216 Broadway, Port Ewen, where friends and family may visit on Friday March 24th from 5pm to 8pm. The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11am at the funeral home with burial following in St. Remy Rural Cemetery, St. Remy, NY.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Remy Fire Dept., PO Box 124, Ulster Park, NY 12487 or a charity of your choice.
