Robert L. Chapman of West Chestnut St., Kingston died Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at Kingston Hospital. He was 66.
He was born in Charleston, SC, a son of the late Robert and Alethia Chapman Sr. A US Army veteran, Mr. Chapman served in the 101st Airborne division in Germany from 1975 - 1978. A longtime area resident, Mr. Chapman worked at Kingston Hospital for ten years.
Chiz wrote: "Though Robert lived at heart street, in life's terms, for a short time, his impact on the house was profound. In his quiet manner, he showed grace and kindness to each and every person who shared this house with him. Robert was out in the snow shoveling next to those who braved the wind and water. He would ride with Rufus and carry the food from the food pantry to those most in need.
Robert was humble and saw, through the pain of his own life, what true kindness is. May he be on our hill forever."
He is survived by many dear friends at Chiz's Heart Street.
Reposing at the Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Monday from 11:00 - 12:00. A service, conducted by Rev. Darlene L. Kelley, will be at noon. Interment will follow in Montrepose Cemetery.
